Leaf Dish

The leaf dish was made by rolling a leaf into clay that had been flattened on the slab roller, then cutting around the imprint.  I used a mold to add the detail of the dragonfly.  After a firing, I painted slip over the whole thing and then wiped it off, leaving it only in the indentations where the veins of the leaf were. I used Cobalt Blue slip on the leaf and Red Iron slip and Blue Green slip on the dragonfly.  I then glazed it in Rutile Blue.

This leaf dish had Red Iron slip in the veins of the leaf.  I glazed it with Ohata Kaki, then dipped it in Rutile Blue.  The bottom photo shows how I added a hand-built foot for the dish using overlapping strips of clay.
