Picasso Vase with Lid

This vase was hand built around a piece of PVC that I then cut with a needle tool to make the lid. I etched this mix of Picasso pieces into it and painted it in assorted underglazes.  Then after it was fired, I used a wax resist on the edges and airbrushed glaze onto it. The graphic was masked off and I sprayed it with Teadust Black glaze. Then I removed the masking tape and sprayed that with Transparent glaze.

Leaf Dish Batch #2

This dish was done with Blue Green slip in the cracks and glazed with Splotchy Lavendar over Farrell.

This big leaf dish was Red Iron slip with Coleman's Purple glaze on the front and Temmoku on the back, but it was painted on and barely showed up.

Leaf Dish

The leaf dish was made by rolling a leaf into clay that had been flattened on the slab roller, then cutting around the imprint.  I used a mold to add the detail of the dragonfly.  After a firing, I painted slip over the whole thing and then wiped it off, leaving it only in the indentations where the veins of the leaf were. I used Cobalt Blue slip on the leaf and Red Iron slip and Blue Green slip on the dragonfly.  I then glazed it in Rutile Blue.

This leaf dish had Red Iron slip in the veins of the leaf.  I glazed it with Ohata Kaki, then dipped it in Rutile Blue.  The bottom photo shows how I added a hand-built foot for the dish using overlapping strips of clay.

Two and Three Pound Bowls

This 2 lb. bowl featured overlapping 2 1/2 Brown glaze over Rutile Blue. It turned out quite nice.

This 2 lb. bowl was done with two different clays mixed to get a marbled effect. I used Blue Green slip and painted it on with a skunk hair brush.  The glazes I used were Transparent on the inside and Coleman's Purple on the outside, but they both went on too thin and it turned out uneven.

This 3 lb. bowl was also mixed clay.  I used Red Iron and Blue Green slips inside with the skunk hair brush and glazed it with Angel Eyes.

One Pound Bowls

The first bowl used Cobalt Blue slip as the detailing on the inside and outside. The glaze on the outside is Angel Eyes. Inside is Rutile Blue.

This bowl used Red Iron slip on the inside spiral and had a stripe around the outside, as well.  The glaze on the inside is Rutile Blue and the outside glaze is Teadust Black.

Mug #2

This mug was thrown with half and half clay.  It features a hand-pulled handle.  The octopus was etched in and then painted over with an assortment of underglazes.  It was then glazed with Transparent for a glossy finish. Probably my favorite piece and the one I'm most proud of.

Mug #1

This mug was made from cone 10 long beach clay.  It was the very first piece I threw on the wheel.  The glaze on the outside is called Ohata Kaki and the inside is Desert Sand.  The stamp, which is the Chinese character for "fire" was painted with Very Red and Black underglazes.
